How A Downward Facing Dog Can Improve Employee Engagement
Employee engagement seeks employees to be at their top performance levels and advocates for their employers. There are many different methods, approaches and activities used by organisations to help improve and maintain high employment engagement levels, key to a more productive, motivated and happy workforce.
More and more organisations are investing in well-being programmes that not only improve the health and well-being of their employees, thus decreasing absenteeism through ill health, but proves to your employees that you are a caring employee that values its people.
So how about this for a well-being exercise? Yoga.
The health benefits of yoga and meditation are widely publicised but the most widely known are:-
Stress reduction
A number of studies have shown that yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety. It can also enhance your mood and overall general sense of well-being.
Improved fitness
Practising yoga can lead to improved balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength. Over time, ligaments, tendons and muscles lengthen and this leads to increasing elasticity in your body’s movement. This means you’re less likely to injure yourself in other physical endeavours or in your daily activities.
Management of chronic conditions
Yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yoga might also help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia.
Inner peace
Yoga has the ability to create inner peace and calm. It’s probably the main image people have of yoga: people with legs crossed, hands over each knee, looking serene. Yet, meditation through regular practice cultivates inner peace and calm, enabling people t connect with the present moment and being in tune with their surroundings.
Weight management
Over indulged in too many business lunches? Yoga helps manage your weight by creating a more positive self-image and, in turn, encourages you to think about nutrition and what you eat.
Of course, there are many different well-being activities you can promote in the workplace. Yoga is one that almost everybody can have a go at, and almost anywhere – so why not give it a go?
