Set Out Your Business Resolutions
At this time of year, people reflect on the year gone by and look to make New Year’s resolutions for the coming year.
And there’s no reason why businesses can’t make resolutions too, after all they are every bit as important.
However, as most of us know, it’s all too easy to fall off the resolution wagon. In order to stick to a resolution it must be realistic, achievable and sustainable.
What we quite often forget, is that New Year’s day, is just a day like any other, so, resolutions can be made at any time.
Today, we’d like to offer up some ideas to help organisations set and stick to their resolutions.
- Lessons learnt
Take a look back over the previous year and highlight where things went wrong, then draw up a plan to ensure these problems and issues are eliminated, never to be repeated.
- Focus on good clients
Whilst it may look impressive to have a long list of big, well known clients on your website, are they really the best clients to have. Focus on those clients that are the ‘bread and butter’ business that is reliable, regardless of size and reputation and find ways to incentivise them to continue to do business with you.
- Promote your organisation
If you want to attract new clients, you have to make promotion a priority. Create a resolution to hire a marketing expert, or take the time to create a marketing plan. Keep an eye on what your competitors are doing, what’s ‘trending’ and blow the cobwebs of your social media accounts.
- Identify milestones
Look at where you want your organisation to be at the end of 2016 and what milestones are needed to get there. Once you have identified these milestones, put systems in place to help track progress toward those goals. Breaking down a big lofty goal into smaller milestones will also help your team members achieve a sense of progress along the way as each milestone is reached.
- Review staff performance
Make sure you review how your employees are performing and whether there is anything that can be done to improve it. Regular reviews will identify any gaps in training and professional development. Staff performance reviews may also highlight the need for more staff. Many people take stock of their roles around this time of year, so the New Year is a great time for new recruitment.
These are just a few ideas to help you draw up your business resolution list. Keep it handy so it can be referred to throughout the year. As soon as the list is created outlining action items, assign them to yourself or an employee. Ensure they are noted on the calendar so they won’t be forgotten.
